Smoky Mountains celebrate 75th Anniversary...

2009 marks the 75th anniversary of one of Tennessee's most important natural resources, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. To celebrate, The Knoxville News Sentinel has published a series of articles about the history of the park on it's web site,

Three recent stories on the web site reflect upon Knoxville's influence on the creation of the park, President Franklin D. Roosevelt's visit to the Great Smoky Mountains on September 2, 1940, and John D. Rockefeller Jr's $5 million gift to the park in 1928. All three stories are excellent reads.
