One toe in the water...

Well, here I am, putting my proverbial money where my mouth is... against my better instincts I said that I would give Twitter a chance, so I've officially dipped my pinkie toe in the water, and now I have my very own Twitter profile.

I know I've been giving Twitter a bit of grief lately, but recent comments on my last post on this subject by Russell James and David Kemper, and my own research on the subject have convinced me to give Twitter the old college try. If I go mad following all the "tweets" then I know exactly who to blame for my loss of sanity, so be warned fellas!

Right now, I plan to follow the sage advice of Ron Jones of Search Engine Watch who suggests in his article, "Twitter 101," to follow a few people and "just take the time to 'listen' to the conversation." Over time I hope to utilize Twitter in some sort of structured and constructive way, rather than using it to pontificate on the most mundane parts of my life. For me, simply using Twitter to chronicle "What am I doing" just doesn't seem like a good use of this online platform. I think I'll be able to flesh out the proper use of Twitter for my needs once the water has cooled and I feel more comfortable wading in the kiddie pool of social networking. In the meantime, if you have a suggestion and advice for a Twitter newbie, I welcome your comments.

Here goes nothing!
